Beataboutmusic is a live music discovery platform focused on helping people find, follow, and support grassroots artists, while giving artists and venues better tools to connect with their audience.
The idea originally started in 2016, built around a simple problem. Finding local live music was harder than it should be, with information spread across multiple platforms and no clear, reliable way to see what was happening nearby. Progress paused during COVID as live events disappeared, but when the industry returned, the problem remained. In 2025, we relaunched BAM with a new development team, taking a more focused approach to building a product that could properly address this gap.
As co founder, I have been responsible for shaping the product experience from the ground up. This includes defining direction, designing core user journeys, and continuously iterating based on real usage and feedback.
A key focus has been simplifying how users discover relevant events. I worked on designing a more direct, intent led experience where fans can quickly understand what is happening near them, who is playing, and why it is worth their time. This involved structuring the feed, refining how content is presented, and reducing friction between discovery and action.
Alongside this, I have designed tools for artists and venues to manage their presence, share updates, and engage with their audience more effectively. The aim is to move beyond passive discovery and create a more connected ecosystem, where interaction leads to attendance and ongoing engagement.
Because the platform is live and closely tied to a real community, product decisions are shaped by direct insight. User behaviour, feedback, and patterns of engagement all inform how features are prioritised and evolved over time. This has led to an iterative approach, focused on small improvements that compound into a stronger overall experience.
The result is a platform that brings discovery, engagement, and participation into one place, helping users find music more easily while supporting artists in building more sustainable relationships with their audience.
